Reviving the Mauri of Lake Ngātu

Over a ten year period, Kaio Hooper worked as Te Rūnanga o Ngāitakoto's Environmental Manager and as a Senior Ranger for The Department of Conservation. He dedicated his life to improving the hauora of Lake Ngātu within the rōhe of his iwi Ngāitakoto, and he brought his people with him.

His ability to collaborate with community groups, government and neighbouring whanaunga iwi made this journey a successful one that increased iwi capability, created employment opportunities, upskilled kaimahi, improved the water quality for the roto and won a number of awards in recognition of their efforts.
