Plant a Native Tree for $1

Your trees will be planted across native tree reforestation and riparian projects across Tai Tokerau, Far North Aotearoa, New Zealand. We collect and grow our seeds ourselves.

How it works?

  1. Choose the number of trees you would like to donate/purchase. You will receive a mixture of Mānuka, Kānuka, Karaka, Harakeke and Pohutukawa trees that are chosen to suit the site. It’s simple: $1 NZD = 1 native tree.

  2. Pay online and receive an instant email receipt. You can plant in your own name or as a gift. Email consult@moanawhenua.com for assistance to pay manually or for an invoice.

  3. We plant your native trees with care and we plant your trees at one of our restoration sites across Te Taitokerau during the next suitable planting window (to ensure the highest survival rates). Sites are selected for biodiversity impact and long-term care.

  4. Each tree you fund is uniquely assigned to you (or your giftee) and recorded against its planting site. You’ll receive a Certificate of Appreciation confirming your tree count and site.

  5. See the proof. After planting, we’ll share photos or videos from the site—showing where your trees went in and what species were planted.

  6. Know the impact! We report the biodiversity benefits your trees support at that specific site, for example:

  • habitat created (e.g., for birds, insects, and native lizards)

  • improvements to soil and water quality

  • native species mix and eco-source provenance

  • carbon capture potential (where available)

Why it works?

  • Bulk nursery partnerships keep costs low and quality high

  • Seasonal planting aligned with local ecology

  • Volunteer and community days amplify impact

  • Transparent reporting with site-specific updates

  • We work with dedicated kaitiaki with long-term succession plans within their iwi, marae, kura and communities so we know that each native tree serves a purpose within the regeneration of biodiversity and that each tree will be cared for during its entire life-cycle.

  • This initiative contributes to and creates new employment opportunities locally.

When will my trees be planted?

We plant in the next suitable season for your site (typically winter–spring for best survival). You’ll get updates once they’re in the ground.

Where will my trees be planted?

At one of our native reforestation sites in Aotearoa selected for high biodiversity gain. Your post-planting update will include the site location.

Can I choose the species?

We plant locally appropriate native species suited to each site’s ecology. Your update will list the species used.

Do I get exact GPS coordinates?

We provide site-level mapping and visual proof. In sensitive habitats we may generalise precise pins to protect wildlife, but you’ll always see where your trees went.

What happens if a tree doesn’t survive?

We monitor and replant in the next season where needed to maintain the site’s ecological goals.

Can I plant as a gift or for a business?

Yes—add a name or message at checkout. For bulk or corporate planting, contact us for a custom package and branded certificates.
